Man injured on building site
A man aged in his 50s has been injured after falling from scaffolding at a Kerikeri building site. The accident happened about 1.40pm yesterday on Hall Rd. Firefighters removed some of the scaffolding to allow access to the injured man, who was thought to have suffered a broken leg. He was flown to Whangarei Hospital by the Northland Electricity Rescue Helicopter. WorkSafe is investigating.
More trails open at bike park
Waitangi Mountain Bike Park has opened 13 more trails, taking the total so far to 28 covering almost 40km. Zone 3, which opened without fanfare on Saturday, offers Grade 2, 3 and 4 trails catering to everyone from beginners to advanced riders, as well as breathtaking views from Sky Summit. All tracks descend to Taro Rd.
The new tracks, built by Rotorua's Southstar Trails and Paihia's Andrew Younger Contracting, include Waaraki, one of the longest downhill runs in the park with speeds of up to 40km/h achievable, Pakonga, with a series of big tabletop jumps, and Waitangi Roller Coaster, whose name needs no explanation.
