Rain put a stop to roadworks at the busy Whangarei Hospital entrance last week ... but the NZ Transport Agency has confirmed that work has resumed.
Contractors Fulton Hogan is installing traffic lights at the intersection of State Highway 14 (Maunu Rd) and Hospital Rd, extending the cycle lanes, and providing a painted median along the state highway.
Excavation work started in the middle section of the road on Wednesday. Heavy rain on Thursday meant work couldn't continue but work resumed on Friday and will continue this week.
The excavation in the middle of the road was expected to take about a week, before work moved to either side of the road.
A temporary traffic management plan is in place with a speed limit of 30km/h until works finish in April. Work is under way from 7am to 7pm, Monday to Friday.
