Rescued man stable
An Auckland man who got into trouble while swimming at Kai Iwi Lakes was flown to the Whangarei Hospital in a stable condition. Whangarei police Senior Sergeant Stephanie Hudson said the 72-year-old swimmer got into trouble about 2pm on Saturday as the shallow water dropped off steeply into the deep. The man was brought to shore and treated by St John paramedics before being flown to the Whangarei Hospital.
Injured after fall
A 12-year-old boy suffered head injuries when he fell off the back of a ute on SH12 near Rawene. He was taken to Rawene Hospital about 12.30pm on Saturday before being transported by ambulance to Whangarei Hospital for a precautionary CT scan.
