Kamo High School students and staff will this week be taken on a tour of some of the world's greatest spots, without leaving the classroom, as it becomes the only school in Northland to get a visit from the Google Expedition Team.
On Friday, the Google Expedition Team, from California, US, will be in the school for the day working with students and then with staff showing them the wonders of the Expedition programme.
They will take the students and staff on virtual reality expeditions, using phones and cardboard headsets. Expeditions are made to immerse students in entirely new experiences of places they can't usually go such as coral reefs, the moon, Mars, Barcelona, London, diving with sharks, etc.
Google says Expeditions teams will visit selected schools around the world, starting with the US, Australia, New Zealand, the UK and Brazil.
Each team will bring a complete Expeditions kit with everything the teachers need to take their students on journeys anywhere. The team will show teachers how Expeditions works and help set it up before class.
