Two people were taken to hospital after a motorist drove through an intersection and collided with a logging truck near Whangarei, police say.
Sergeant Christian Stainton said it appeared the driver of the car travelling down Kokopu Rd toward Whatitiri Rd did not see the Mangakahia Rd intersection.
The car collided with the empty logging truck just after 11.30am yesterday, Mr Stainton said.
"It appears she [the car driver] failed to recognise the intersection here," he said.
A St John spokeswoman said the driver and occupant of the car were taken to Whangarei Hospital, one with serious injuries and the other with moderate injuries. The large silver vehicle ended up upside down in the ditch in the opposite side of the road.
