Northlanders are more likely to gamble than the average New Zealander, a survey shows.
More than two-thirds of Northlanders - 80,000 - say they have gambled in the past three months, making them 12 per cent more likely to gamble than the average New Zealander.
New Roy Morgan data shows Northlanders are 17 per cent more likely to have bought a Lotto ticket in the last three months, 9 per cent more likely to have played the pokies, and 8 per cent more likely to have bought Instant Kiwi scratchies.
Northland punters were also 72 per cent more likely to have played Keno in the past three months than the rest of the country. However, Northlanders were less fond of online betting, at 49 per cent less likely than the national average, and 13 per cent less likely to place a TAB bet.
Meanwhile, a High Court battle continues into how to mitigate the harm caused by problem gambling.
