Underwater enthusiasts from as far away as Auckland took part in Saturday's Russell to Opua Snorkel-Scuba Race, in which contestants have to take turns snorkelling then scuba diving across the 3.5km Veronica Channel while towing a decoy duck.
The 32-year-old event was won for the second year running by Auckland's Wettie Young Guns.
The day's events also featured an ice-breaker swim for the kids, who had to retrieve blocks of ice from the sea to exchange for prizes.
