The Northern Advocate has been announced as the only APN regional newspaper finalist in "paper of the year" categories in the 2014 Canon Awards.
And two APN staff - Advocate reporter Kristin Edge (senior regional news reporter category) and Northland Age editor Peter Jackson (editorial writer of the year) are also finalists.
The Advocate is up against the Manawatu Evening Standard for the Paper of the Year title in the "under 30,000" circulation category. The winners will be announced at a ceremony in Auckland on May 9.
Last month, the Advocate won the APN group Regional Paper of the Year award, and is the only APN newspaper in 2013 to have increased readership.
At the same awards Ms Edge won the APN Reporter of the year, for a third time, and Mr Jackson took out the APN community columnist of the year award, for the second time.
