Northlanders will have another crack at being volunteers in a global sporting spectacle when the Fifa Under-20 World Cup comes to town in 2015.
Whangarei will host four games in the third largest sporting event on the planet - after the Olympics and Fifa World Cup - and organisers yesterday indicated approaches would be made to schools, community groups and the public to help out during the games.
Dave Beeche, chief executive of the Fifa U-20 World Cup New Zealand 2015, accompanied acting Whangarei mayor Phil Halse and representatives of the Northland Football Federation yesterday on a tour of the Toll Stadium which will host four matches.
A meeting to discuss the logistics of hosting the matches preceded the tour and a second visit to Whangarei from Fifa officials is scheduled for March next year.
