Dargaville police were kept busy over Labour Weekend by a number of vehicle accidents - several of which involved tourists.
But, while several vehicles were extensively damaged, no one was seriously injured.
Sergeant Maria Nordstrom said at about 4.30pm on Friday afternoon a local driver did a u-turn in front of a car being driven by a Spanish tourist. While the cars collided there was no major damage or injuries.
Around 8pm the same night police were called to Aranga on State Highway 12, 40km north-west of Dargaville.
A French tourist heading north had allegedly travelled through marked roadworks a little too fast and had lost control on a corner. The car skidded across the road and collided with a farm fence. The man was uninjured, but his car was extensively damaged.
The farmer secured the vehicle and covered it with a tarpaulin until it could be towed.
While police were transporting the hapless tourist back to Dargaville to find accommodation they came across flashing lights.
This time it was two German tourists whose front left CV joint on their vehicle had collapsed. With the help of locals the car was "limped" to a nearby farmer's where it was stored awaiting AA assistance the next morning. The German couple were put up for the night by the local family.
Meanwhile, a third vehicle travelling south hit a log on the road beside the Aranga School, blowing out its tyre.
The Police Ten Seven filming unit assisted with changing the tyre before heading back to a disturbance at a Dargaville restaurant.
The next day (Saturday) three cars were involved in a pile-up on Opanake Rd at Mamaranui, 22km north-west of Dargaville. One vehicle heading north and two heading south met on a blind corner. The driver of one vehicle attempted to swerve out of the way, but all three vehicles hit each other - two were extensively damage - no one was injured.
However, one of the vehicles left to be towed was vandalised overnight - its windows were smashed and body dented.
Just after midnight on October 23, a 62-year-old man was arrested after he refused alcohol testing.
The man had been driving a vehicle towing a golf cart when he failed to negotiate an intersection on the corner of Ripiro Drive and Seaview Rd at Baylys Beach and drove into a ditch.
When police arrived the man was abusive and refused attention from ambulance officers.
