There will be some delays for people commuting from Kamo and beyond over the next two months as a 1.2km stretch of Kamo Rd is ripped up and relaid.
Whangarei District Council's contractor Downer was undertaking the $1.4 million of work, as the underlying surface of the road was "aged, worn and damaged", said the council's roading projects engineer, Kevin Barry.
Contractors would balance the needs of commuters with residents' need for night-time quiet. The stretch of road through the busy Kamo Village (between Griffin and Lillian St) would take place at night, while a section north of this (from Lillian to Butler Place) and south (from Griffin to Hailes Rd) would be done during the day as these were residential areas.
Major work would begin next week and was expected to wrap up by December 9.
"There will be some impact here on access, parking and commuter traffic, but this will be managed in stages to minimise disruption," Mr Barry said.
