When Dannevirke police arrived at a motor vehicle accident in the early hours of last Monday morning, the driver of the vehicle had disappeared.
The accident occurred on State Highway 2, at Matamau, at approximately 5am, not far from France Rd, with the car leaving the road and ploughing into a concrete power pole, smashing it to the ground and cutting power to the area, Senior Sergeant Nathan Davis of the Tararua police said.
However, the driver had disappeared and investigations are continuing.
The Dannevirke Volunteer Fire Brigade also attended, but were only required to put the car back up on its wheels to ensure no one was trapped underneath, fire chief Pete Sinclair said.
