Wellington authorities have rejected a plan to convert Tranz Rail's disused Arahanga ferry into a 100-room hotel with an aquarium, casino and restaurant.
Developer Philip Stratford says the $12 million project would create 200 jobs.
Lambton Harbour Management, the Wellington City Council and CentrePort have all spurned the idea. Lambton chief executive Bruce Green says everyone wants to put something on the waterfront "but seriously, it's an old rail ferry which can't float and has to lie in a cradle."
