Halfback Brett Kimmorley has hit back at criticism from within Northern Eagles ranks that the rugby league club paid the Melbourne Storm too much to secure his services.
Kimmorley said he felt everyone was out to get him following reports that he would be axed as the New South Wales State
of Origin halfback for the second interstate battle, on June 10 at Stadium Australia.
Writing in the Newcastle Herald, Kimmorley was responding to comments by Eagles chairman Ian Thomson, who said the decision to sign the halfback to a deal believed to be worth $A500,000 ($622,820) a year may have been poor in light of the club's financial woes.
"The Northern Eagles chased me for my services and I signed a lucrative deal that both parties were happy with," Kimmorley said.
"People shouldn't read too much into reports saying that I have been offered too much money, because the club made it pretty clear they would do anything to get me here."
