Lorde has met the inspiration behind her hit single, Royals. And it turns out, he is a former American baseball player.

The N.Y. Post reported Lorde recently caught up with former Kansas City Royals third baseman George Brett, the man she has acknowledged as being the muse behind the smash hit.

Lorde said she was looking through a National Geographic magazine and saw a photo of the baseball star smiling and signing autographs.

"He was a baseball player and his shirt said, 'Royals,' " Lorde told VH1 of the inspiration behind the song. "It was just that word. It's really cool."

The newly-crowned Taite Music Prize winner posed for a photo with the baseball legend, which was posted on Twitter.

According to TMZ, the pair had not met before, but Brett had sent the singer a signed jersey, writing "Lorde, you are Royal to me".
