Some might say McLaren is coming home. The road-going supercars of McLaren Automotive will soon be available to local buyers with the construction of the marque's first New Zealand dealership.
The new outlet will be the country's sole agent for current and future McLaren models.
The dealership, McLaren's 50th worldwide, will be located in Great North Rd, neighbouring Japanese luxury brand Lexus in Grey Lynn near the Auckland city centre.
Work has already begun in earnest. The floor will feature tiles brought from the UK adorned with the McLaren emblem. The new facility also ties in with the 50th anniversary of the McLaren Formula 1 team, started by Auckland-born engineer and racing driver Bruce McLaren.
The brand will be sold through the Giltrap Group, founded by motoring industry identity Sir Colin Giltrap, who secured the rights to sell the prestigious supercars in New Zealand.
The line-up will consist of the MP4 12C Coupe and Spyder, powered by a 3.8L twin-turbo V8 engine producing 460kW and 600Nm of torque. They also have a seven-speed dual clutch transmission and feature a chassis made entirely of carbon fibre. With the Spyder, buyers get a retractable hard-top roof which takes 17 seconds to fully open and close.
The new 673kW hybrid P1 hypercar might also be joining the line-up.
