Get ready, UK gossip magazine Tatler have updated their "Guide to Snobbery" for 2016 and the surprising additions may just shatter what you think you know about taste.
The 300-year-old bible famous for its depictions of British royalty and insider advice on "what to wear on a private jet" has laid out the new social rules just in time for Christmas.
In breaking news, the magazine has deemed it okay to use the word "toilet" which it claims had remained the "eye of the storm" when it comes to words that make you "inwardly clench".
Cold houses Sticks in vases Visible bra straps Talking in lifts "Main" instead of "main course" Sunglasses inside Coloured loo paper Those who fail to walk through the doors last Talking about money High heels at a polo match Eating on the train/tube Saying "lounge" instead of "sitting room" Brushing your hair on the bus Vulgar celebrities Precocious children Fake Christmas trees French manicures People who don't have any books in their houses Red cars Cleaning your knife with your fork in midair Baby showers
Unacceptable snobbery
Piercings Carnations Paper napkins Applying makeup on the bus Cheap chocolates Where you go on holiday Saying "mirror" instead of "looking glass" The fact that you went to Eton Saying "Pleased to meet you" instead of "How do you do" Saying "perfume" instead of "scent" Using liquid soap instead of a bar of soap to wash your hands
So one can no longer be snobbish about piercings, carnations, putting your makeup on on the bus, using liquid soap and saying "mirror" instead of looking glass. It is 2016 after all.
There are certain things however, that remain undeniably crass, Tatler claims. Among them; Red cars, visible bra straps, eating on the train/tube, fake Christmas trees, baby showers, talking about money and coloured loo paper.
So there you have it. No excuse for not having a classy Christmas.
