A mum's candid revelation about the trials and tribulations of giving birth has gone viral.
Amanda Bacon, a North Carolina local who lives with her husband and two children, posted an image to Facebook of herself wearing a "giant mum diaper" shortly after giving birth.
The photo has struck a chord with mothers around the world. Since being shared yesterday morning the post has received more than 401, 000 likes and 106,000 shares.
Captioning the image, Bacon wrote: "I'm sharing this picture because it's real.
"This is motherhood; it's raw, stunning, messy, and freaking hilarious all rolled into one.
"Having a baby is a beautiful experience, and the realities of postpartum life aren't spoken enough about. And definitely not photographed enough."
She also noted that she knew when she shared the post that some people might find the image "uncomfortable". She questioned why this might be.
She said while it may not be as appealing to see as pictures of a beautiful newborn, "this part of childbirth is just as important and just as real.
"We all should try and educate, empower and embrace every aspect of childbirth, including moments like this. And do it while having a sense of humor.
"Nothing says welcome to motherhood like an adorable squishy baby, and a giant mom diaper."
The mother of two was bombarded with responses of praise and thanks.
One woman wrote: "After all the prenatal classes I went to and books I read not once did it mention what happens in the days right after giving birth.
"I was not prepared and thank God my mom was able to stop and buy me some depends."
The post has also sparked conversation between mothers and mums-to-be with many woman thanking Bacon for the photo and saying it perfectly reflected their own birthing experience.
