As Australia's win over Argentina set the stage for an epic All Blacks v Wallabies showdown, Twitter was buzzing with anticipation.
"The dream final awaits," tweeted former Wallaby Tim Horan, a sentiment echoed by many other former players and fans on Twitter.
While he's not playing for the All Blacks this World Cup, Cory Jane was quick to show his support and excitement for the final - tweeting that the antipodean rivalry was "always my favourite battle as a player".
Aussie golf champion Greg Norman also alluded to the rivalry between the two countries in his tweet.
Former England coach Sir Clive Woodward tweeted that the All Blacks and Wallabies were the best two teams by far, adding that he hoped the "English weather can stay excellent as well".
"Ignore complaints from whinging poms," was newspaper mogul Rupert Murdoch's advice.
Many were quick to note the similarities in the fixtures for the Rugby World Cup and the Cricket World Cup earlier this year - which had All Blacks supporters a bit concerned and Wallabies fans a bit over-confident.
No pressure or anything, All Blacks.
Australian journalist Don Gordon-Brown wondered which colony the Queen would be supporting in the Rugby World Cup final.
"Is our Queen of Australia also the Queen of New Zealand?" he tweeted. "If so, who is the quaint little biddy going to root for in the World Cup final?"
And predictably, the memes have already begun.
