Hawke's Bay division three rugby teams Napier Technical and Raupunga-based YMP have been placed on a good behaviour bond for the remainder of the season.
Club development officer for the Hawke's Bay Rugby Football Union Gary Macdonald said a June 10 match between the two teams at Napier's Whitmore Park was called off and a judicial hearing last week decided no match points will be awarded following the abandonment.
A Hawke's Bay colts fixture between Taradale and Havelock North at Tareha Recreational Reserve, Taradale was also called off on June 10. Macdonald said Havelock North were leading 12-3 when the referee blew the whistle for the final time in the second half and will be awarded the competition points for the victory.
"There was a series of referee abuse during the game including some from an unidentified player. The game was also transferred to another ground after a serious injury and the referee became increasingly frustrated as the abuse continued and he felt he had no other option but to call it off," Macdonald added.
These abandonments came a fortnight after incidents in a premier game between MAC and Hastings Rugby and Sports saw the province's referees decide not to officiate any games involving MAC in Hastings for the remainder of the season.
