Greendale's Julian Layton set seven Hawke's Bay Poverty Bay records at the national short course swimming championships in Wellington last week.
Competing in his 17-18 years age group, Layton was 19/100ths of a second off the male 18 years 200m breaststroke record when he won gold. He won bronze medals in his age group 100m breaststroke, 400m individual medley and 50m breaststroke.
Layton also finished fourth in the 200m individual medley.
Competing in the open grade, Layton won silver in the 200m breaststroke, finished fourth in the 400m individual medley, fifth in the 100m breaststroke and sixth in the 50m breaststroke. Layton swum his age group finals during the morning sessions and his open finals during the evening sessions.
