A shipping navigation light is being replaced with a new state-of-the-art light by Hawke's Bay Regional Council's harbourmaster.
The $16,500 LED light is being installed on a Hawke's Bay Airport tower.
The replacement light is an upgrade that Hawke's Bay Regional Council decided was a priority to have in place before the older light failed.
If it had suddenly failed, it would have taken six months to replace it.
"The new light is an investment in continuous navigation safety for shipping and local boaties, and should have a long bright life," harbourmaster Martin Moore said.
