The cast includes Sol3 Mio tenor Pene Pati, American soprano Toni Marie Palmertree, Welsh mezzo-soprano Rebecca Afonwy-Jones and baritone Gary Griffiths, under the direction of Jennifer Ward-Lealand and the baton of conductor Jose Aparicio.
He said it was always inspirational to work in with people who were passionate about their arts, and through the years he has certainly worked with many.
His CV is extensive and includes set and prop design work on a great diversity of productions — Badjelly The Witch, King Lear, The Magic Flute, Don Giovanni, Once on Chunuk Bair, Porgy and Bess, Hamlet, Death of a Salesman — the list just goes on.
He has also sorted the production design for the World of Wearable Arts.
"I've been at this for 35 years...and still going," he said with a laugh.
"And yes, I'm still learning every day."
That is reflected in the work he has created since the day he walked into a show at Theatre Corporate in Auckland and got hooked by what he saw.
He had been working in graphic design but said he never fancied the notion of spending his life working on a screen all day.
He had seen a one-man show — it was about a prisoner, and he was captivated and went back later to see the crew at Theatre Corporate.
"And never left".
With a smile he admitted he was still very old school in his approach.
His designs emerged from paper and pencil and a drawing board, which those charged with building the sets are very much in favour of.
"For them there is more depth to it."
He has worked on "big stuff and small stuff" and one thing he does not do is repeat himself.
"I have never done anything twice," he said.
"I have done several shows more than once but they are always with a new design."
It is a lot of thinking, pondering, musing and creating — so does he ever get the designer's equivalent of writer's block?
"Oh a few times but you just have to keep going because it will happen...keep going."
Mr Verryt said he would return to Napier for the rehearsals of the show when his designwork would all be in place.
And for anyone wondering what it will look like?
While originally devised around a Japanese location theme that will not be reflected in what is to appear here.
"There is nothing Japanese about it — it is a focus on what the story is about — it will have more of a European look."
