Of the All Blacks he noted "oh they 'ain't 'alf big".
Big and brave, because many of them have happily had their heads shaved through the years for the wonderful cause of supporting the Child Cancer Foundation.
When it comes to shaving my head I'm a chicken, so I instead become one of those who steps forward to put some cash in the foundation kitty as a supporter.
It's not that I wouldn't shave my head if I really, really had to...it's just that my head is a mis-shapen piece of biological engineering and the sight of it glowing like a desert rather than a grey forest would only frighten children.
And that would not be fair...so I leave it to Brodie and his All Black mates, and many, many other well-recognised faces (and heads) from across the sporting and general high profile landscape.
And (as I can because I would have nothing to hide) I take my hat off to them.
A few years back AB and Crusaders star Ryan Crotty agreed to shave off his trademark beard...also for the Child Cancer Foundation.
He raised just over $11,000.
It is heartening, soul-stirring stuff because it just so clearly shows there is a determination and devotion out there among so many people to do something for this very special and very essential foundation.
So if the call goes out for vollies to have their hair shaved off for a fine cause, and you're terrified of the visual result, just step up and comb through the old wallet and cut out some dollars as a sponsor.
If the time comes to make the cut do your barbering bit for the kids and families affected by this dreadful illness.
