A man who sped through road spikes while being chased by police has been sentenced to community work.
Caelrei Munro, 24, pleaded guilty when he appeared in the Hastings District Court yesterday on seven charges including several domestic disputes; one in which he fled from police and evaded road spikes while disqualified from driving.
Police prosecutor Tanya Ashfield told the court police were called to a domestic dispute in Hastings on January 18 and while en-route were informed the man had left the address in a white Ford Falcon.
The vehicle, driven by Munro, was spotted a short time later travelling on Longlands Rd in Hastings but failed to stop for police, travelling about 130km/h in a 100km/h zone.
Road spikes deployed by police caused one of the vehicle's tyres to deflate, however Munro continued driving; making several U-turns while police were in pursuit.
