Bluey, a four-year-old cocker spaniel, which fell off Bluff Hill in Napier last Monday night, has been rescued this morning after the Lowe Corp Rescue Helicopter, a drone and fire service were called in.
It is believed the dog either got through a hole in the council's protection fence or jumped over it.
Attempt by the fire service to abseil down the cliff earlier in the week proved fruitless. A photographer with a drone was also hired to look for the dog.
Eventually Napier firemen absailed down this morning to rescue the dog, which had a broken leg, off a ledge where it had been for several days.
The firemen lowered the cocker spaniel to the ground.
