Last time Hawke's Bay hosted the national Ng Manu Krero competition it was 1992 - this month they have the honour again.
From September 23 to 25, speakers from throughout New Zealand will descend on Pettigrew Green Arena for the event run by Te Matau-a-Maui (Hawke's Bay Maori Teachers).
It is largest and longest-running educational competition for Maori students across all state and integrated secondary schools.
It's aim is to promote excellence in the delivery and use of English and Te Reo Maori.
Four students from local high schools will compete in the event, alongside finalists from the tip of the North Island to Invercargill.
