Hawke's Bay youngsters will get to express their musical talents these school holidays thanks to Napier Technical Memorial Band.
The Band will be conducting another of its popular holiday workshops with music director Hoani Hawaikarangi on April 30, May 1 and 2.
Held at the band's practice room at Whitmore Park, Marewa, Napier, the course will cater for young musicians who can read music and play flute, clarinet, saxophone, oboe, trumpet, cornet, trombone, baritone, xylophone, euphonium, drum kit, timpani, bass guitar or tuba together with the opportunity for keyboard or piano players to learn to play percussion. "This is a great opportunity for young musicians to develop quickly," says the band's publicist Paul Hendy.
The courses run from 9am to noon. Hoani Hawaikarangi has played trombone and euphonium in bands for 50 years .
The Napier Technical Memorial Band had its beginnings in 1929 at the Technical College in Munroe St, opposite St Patrick's Church, on part of the site of the existing Countdown Supermarket.
