A judge has ordered the destruction of two dogs after they mauled five sheep, injuring them so badly they had to be euthanised by animal control workers.
The July 2 attack was seen by two children, aged 5 and 9, and an adult who tried to intervene.
The owner of the dogs, Anthony Robert Kirk, appeared in the Napier District Court yesterday. He was ordered to pay a $510 fine and court costs.
A summary of facts said the two dogs, a sharpei/rhodesian ridgeback and a heading dog, were unregistered at the time.
They had been reported missing by Kirk on July 1 after two complaints of them roaming in Marine Parade in Napier.
