Former Bay Hawks and twin brothers Dwayne and Damion Davies are looking to make a comeback to the National Basketball League after taking a break five years ago to attend police college in Porirua.
Damion played for the Hawks from 2001 to 2004 when he opted to step away from the NBL for a career in the force.
Dwayne was in the team for one more year than his brother, finishing in 2005, to follow Damion's lead into policing.
The twins have been based at the Napier police station for about three years and with family life settled (Damion has two sons, while Dwayne has six children) they've set their sights on making the Hawks 2011 roster.
"We played rugby for Taradale for the last two years and we've bulked up a bit for that. So now it's a matter of losing some weight and concentrating on our fitness," Damion said.
Now 27 years old, they say their basketball skills "are still there". The twins haven't officially approached the Hawks, but are working on their game so they might be considered for 2011.
They have the support of their families.
"Yep, we've got the wives on side, that was No1 we had to get the tick in the box from them before we could do anything else," Dwayne said.
