Mission Estate has won the Westpac Hawke's Bay Chamber of Commerce Business Awards' Supreme Award - The Hawke's Bay Today Business of the Year award.
It was also awarded the Xplore.net Online Award while CEO Peter Holley was named the Hawke's Bay Chamber of Commerce/Employers and Manufacturers Association Business Person of
the Year.
Convener of judging Rick Cranswick said Mission Estate was a truly stand-out Hawke's Bay business that had "performed well during tough times for the industry".
"The Mission Estate Winery is one of the earliest pioneers in winemaking in New Zealand and one of the gems of Hawke's Bay, combining old world artistry with new world technology," he said.
Mr Cranswick highlighted the diverse nature of the Mission Estate's business, which was further enhanced by the winery's commitment to sustainability and respect for the environment.
"Not only does it bring us the Mission Concert and great wine but it also has a renowned restaurant and it is a fantastic venue for functions.
"The Mission has also developed, and continues to develop, environmentally sustainable land management and business practices."
Mission Estate was praised by judges for its online approach to the promotion and sale of its products with a highly co-ordinated website, e-commerce, email newsletter, banner advertising and social media strategy.
"Their planned approach to sharing their story online, along with regular tracking and tweaking, has produced outstanding results. Their website is regularly updated with content for end users and trade partners."
Heinz Watties joined Mission Estate as another of Hawke's Bay's most recognised businesses to win an award this year, scoring the Workfit Healthy Workplace Award.
Two Central Hawke's Bay businesses won awards with Wood Mallets of Otane winning the NZTE Exporter of the Year and Waipukurau based Agri-Labs Co Products receiving the newly created Hawke's Bay Regional Council/Venture Hawke's Bay Business Innovation Award.
The Barnes Mossman Emerging Business Award was won by Waimarama Maori Tours at Hakikino. The Te Puni Kokiri Maori Business Excellence Award went to Wiki Design and Consultancy.
