She begged him not to do it on nationwide TV but he did it anyway. And she still said yes.
Renovations were put on hold on The Block NZ: Villa Wars last night as Hamilton contestant Sarah Kong was paid a quick visit by her boyfriend, Neth, who had a surprise up his sleeve.
Friends and family members aren't usually allowed to visit The Block, but producers made an exception for Neth, who hadn't seen his girlfriend, Sarah, for nine weeks and was obviously missing her.
Dressed in a suit and work boots, Neth had a quick tour of the house Sarah is renovating with her sister Minanne for the TV3 reality show.
Neth then got down to business, getting down on one knee and asking Sarah to marry him in front of the show's cameras.
"The reason why I'm actually here is not just to surprise you. It's something else. You're caring, kind and sweet. There's a million reasons why I love you," he told a shocked Sarah, bending his knee.
Sarah took a little convincing - saying, "No, no, no, don't do this, oh my gosh, are you serious?" - as he popped the question.
The answer, though, was a definite yes. A beaming Sarah called her ring "the sparkliest thing on The Block" and the pair celebrated with hugs and kisses.
Viewers took to Facebook to congratulate them.
"So happy for you Sarah! You still looked stunning even in your work gear!" wrote one fan.
"May your future be filled with much love and beautiful bathrooms," wrote another.
Sarah, 24, has a masters degree in industrial design and is competing to win The Block NZ: Villa Wars with her 19-year-old sister.
The live auction finale screens on TV3 this Sunday.
