Seven Sharp set a new ratings record last night, with 675,000 viewers tuning in across the country, according to Nielsen.
It was the highest rating episode of all time for the series, which launched in January 2013.
The 7pm programme, hosted by Mike Hosking and Pippa Wetzell, has seen a steady growth in ratings since Campbell Live came off air last month.
But it couldn't top Shortland Street with younger viewers, as the soap opera claimed 200,000 viewers in the 25-54 age bracket, versus Seven Sharp's 185,000 and Come Dine With Me's 93,000.
One News was the most-watched programme across the board, with 858,000 viewers tuning in, including 271,000 aged 25-54.
3 News managed just a third of that, with 239,000 viewers tuning in (99,000, 25-54).
