A magical English nanny met a Maori warrior in the middle of Queen St after flying in for the musical Mary Poppins.

New York actress Rachel Wallace stars as the titular character in the stage adaptation of the P.L. Travers books and the 1964 iconic childhood movie.

Fresh from the Disney-backed United States production, Wallace was yesterday greeted with a hongi by Maori performer Edmund Eramiha outside Auckland's Civic Theatre where the show will start on Saturday.

It will run through until December.
