New trailer details Boxing Day tsunami horror

The first trailer has been released for The Impossible, a movie that details the devastating Boxing Day tsunami of 2004.

Directed by Juan Antonio Bayona, it stars Ewan McGregor and Naomi Watts as a married couple holidaying in Thailand with their three children until they get separated in the chaos caused by the tsunami.

The tsunami footage in the trailer will be chilling for anyone who remembers the disaster, which struck on Boxing Day 2004, generated by a massive earthquake near Sumatra.

It killed 230,000 people across Indonesia, Sri Lanka, India, and Thailand and left many more homeless, and has been described as one of the deadliest natural disasters in recorded history.

The Impossible's official tagline is: "An account of a family caught, with tens of thousands of strangers, in the mayhem of one of the worst natural catastrophes of our time."

It's due for release at the end of the year.
