A man has been taken into police custody following the discovery of a woman's body north of Auckland this morning.

Emergency services were called to a house on Coronation St in Te Hana, north of Wellsford, just after 4am.

Police cordoned off the house, and say the woman was believed to be 26-years-old.

Her body will remain at the property until initial scene examinations are completed, after which time she will be removed for a post-mortem examination.

The incident was domestic-related, police said.

A 40-year-old man is likely to appear in the North Shore District Court today, although charges against him are yet to be determined.
