Three people injured in a crash on Auckland's Southern Motorway after a bank robbery yesterday are still in hospital.
Two men in a BMW that collided with a ute near Papakura will have surgery and are likely to be discharged into police custody, pending their recovery, this week.
The 57-year-old driver of the ute sustained serious neck injuries and is likely facing a longer stay in hospital.
The men pulled from the BMW will both face charges of aggravated robbery, dangerous driving causing injury and failing to stop for police, and will appear in the Manukau District Court following their release from hospital, police said.
The crash occurred after a robbery at the Westpac Bank on Hall St, Pukekohe shortly before noon.
Two partially disguised men burst in armed with a hammer and threatened staff before leaving with an undisclosed amount of cash.
The robbers were seen driving off in a BMW.
Police are still asking for witnesses, particularly anyone who saw the robbers leaving the bank. They also want to hear from anyone who saw the crash, or the BMW involved in it.
Anyone with information should contact Counties Manukau police on (09) 261 1300 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
