The police inquiry into the Richard Worth sex allegation investigated whether the woman involved made a false complaint, but eventually took no action against her.
Detective Inspector Paul Basham yesterday confirmed that police looked at whether the Korean woman made a false complaint as part of the six-month investigation but "finally determined there would be no action taken against either party".
Mr Basham said the decision not to pursue the false complaint was based on the investigation, a legal review, and the view of the parties involved.
Police also decided not to bring any charges against Dr Worth in relation to the woman's sexual allegation, which led to his resignation.
At the time, Prime Minister John Key said that he would have sacked him had he not resigned because "his conduct does not befit a minister and I will not have him in my Cabinet".
Mr Key also said then that he would probably reveal why he had lost confidence in Dr Worth but he did not want to contaminate a police investigation. However, he has subsequently refused to reveal why he sacked him.
