DARGAVILLE - A teenage boy stabbed during a lunchtime incident at Dargaville High School was in a serious but stable condition last night in Whangarei Hospital.
The 17-year-old, who school authorities said was not a present student of theirs, was in the grounds and became involved in an altercation with pupils in the car park.
He was taken to Dargaville Hospital with a stab wound before being transferred to Whangarei.
Police inquiries at the school yesterday resulted in the referral of another boy to the police youth aid section in Dargaville.
Dargaville police said they would not comment until all the circumstances had been established.
The high school principal, David Macleod, was unavailable yesterday afternoon and early last night.
A school spokeswoman said she did not know what type of weapon was used in the stabbing.
