Adventure is on the cards for thousands of Kiwis this winter, according to research from flight search service

Recent data has revealed June is the most popular winter month to travel, with the number of searches for flights in July jumping more than 100 per cent from those in May.

Destinations in the Northern Hemisphere such as London, Paris and Los Angeles were among the most popular travel destinations from June to August, the company found.

Australian cities of Melbourne and Sydney were also popular travel destinations, making it on to the top five destination list.

Advertisement ANZ regional sales manager Nathan Graham said the company expects to see an increase in last minute getaway as Kiwis opt for the sun as the winter sets in.

"Despite the weakening NZ dollar and some rumblings about lower consumer confidence, Kiwis' wanderlust cannot be quashed," Graham said.

"Competitively priced airfares and the lure of a UK, European or North American summer are keeping long haul travel firmly on the agenda."

London is consecutively the top travel destinations for Kiwis looking to travel during the winter months of June, July and August.
