A team of Slovakian architects have designed an 'Ecocapsule' - a portable pod house designed to run off the grid.
Featuring a built-in kitchen with running water, flushing toilet and hot shower, the 4.5 metre pod is designed by Slovakian architecture firm Nice Architects to comfortably house two adults and is powered by a built-in retractable 750W wind turbine complemented by a 2.6m2 array of solar cells.
The dual power system also includes a high-capacity battery to ensure a power supply during periods of reduced solar or wind activity.

The Ecocapsule's spherical shape is also designed to collect rainwater and dew, while its built-in water filters allow for water from a multitude of sources to be utilised.
Its designers say the Ecocapsule "can support you for almost an entire year in many off-grid locations". And at 1500kg, it can be shipped, airlifted, towed "or even pulled by a pack animal".
A camper version with a built-in chassis and customisation options are also in development and Nice Architects say the Ecocapsule can be delivered from Slovakia to Melbourne for just over $2000.
Although a price has yet to be announced, the company says it will be ready to start taking pre-orders later this year and starting delivery early next year.
