"Greensleeves" will still be heard on streets around Tauranga.

A recent review of Tauranga City Council's Mobile Shops Policy included a ban of mobile food shops trading in the suburbs, which meant no more ice-cream vans.

However, a full council meeting yesterday has altered the policy to allow them to continue operating.

Nicholas Wynne, who has been Mr Whippy in Tauranga for 27 years, said he is relieved common sense has prevailed.

"We will be back doing what we've done so well since 1964 in New Zealand," he said.
