Rotorua Tennis Club won the 2012 WBOP Women's Premier Interclub Championship by defeating Otumoetai 5-1 at the Otumoetai Tennis Club on Saturday.

Both of the opening doubles matches were closely contested, with Rotorua prevailing in both matches.

Rotorua's Pang Suwanaposee and Zanna Douglas fought their way to victory over Casey Tarau and Laura Fisher from Otumoetai, 6-4, 7-6, while Rotorua pair Weiwei Verran and Leona Davis-Kaye showed their experience in holding off the younger Otumoetai pairing of Ashleigh Harvey and Janvhi Clark 6-4, 7-6.

Rotorua were superior in three of the four singles matches which featured some quality tennis.

Suwanaposee (Rotorua) beat Tarau (Otunmoetai) 6-1, 6-1, while Otumoetai's Harvey won over Rotorua's Douglas 6-2, 7-5 in the second singles.

Rotorua's Verran fought back to defeat Otumoetai's Clark 1-6, 6-2, 6-3, and Davis-Kaye prevailed over Otumoetai's Fisher 7-5, 6-2 to clinch the title.

Suwanaposee, who recently relocated from Christchurch, and Otumoetai players Harvey and Clark are national age group junior players, while Rotorua's Davis-Kaye has her name on some NZ Tennis Seniors and Aoteroa Maori Tennis champion lists.
