Firefighters are at the scene of a house fire in Greerton this afternoon.
Three fire trucks are at the house on Greerton Rd and a reporter at the scene said there were no signs of a blaze but smoke could be seen.
Traffic was being diverted away from the area and cordons were in place on the corner of Greerton St and Cornwall St and also on the corner of Greerton St and Chadwick Rd.
Mount Maunganui station officer Nigel Liddicoat said the fire service was notified by a neighbour who saw smoke coming from the roof of the property.
"A small fire was found on the back porch, smoke had risen through the roof and a few sheets of iron had to be pulled back."
Liddicoat credited the neighbour for their quick response.
"This resulted in a minor incident."
Liddicoat said the cause of the fire was not yet known and the occupants of the house were not present.
The first fire truck at the scene was from Greerton and the other two came from Mount Maunganui.
