A rahui, or restricted access, was placed on the area where volunteers have been searching for two men missing in Tongariro National Park today.
Today marks day 10 of the search for two men aged in their 20s who reportedly abandoned a stolen car near the Desert Rd and ran into bushland near the park on August 12.
The police co-ordinated search has included specialist search teams, hundreds of volunteers, including searchers from Tauranga, the police dive squad and a police dog trained in search and rescue techniques.
Senior Sergeant Tony Jeurissen said all search activity to date had been unsuccessful in finding the pair.
He said the family of the missing men today attended a karakia led by Ngati Tuwharetoa at the search site and a rahui was placed on the area.
