Ohauiti's Ken Campbell popped his cold bottle of bubbly this morning to celebrate Team NZ winning the America's Cup.
Mr Campbell, 74, sprang to national fame four years ago when he and a friend camped outside The Cloud, on the Auckland waterfront, to watch Dean Barker's tilt at the Auld Mug.
Although disappointed by that stunning loss, Mr Campbell vowed in 2013 to keep the bottle of champagne on ice until New Zealand sailors won the Cup again.
This series in Bermuda has erased past disappointments.
Mr Campbell has been an avid follower of New Zealanders sailing in the America's Cup since 1995 when Black Magic triumphed in San Diego.
