Hundreds of dancers took to the stage at ASB Arena over the weekend vying for top honours in the Project, a unique hip-hop crew dance competition for youth.
This year 91 hip-hop crews from entry-level competitors to the elite took part in the two-day competition with more than $5000 in prizemoney up for grabs.
Sarah Martin, creative director of Urban Dance Youth Trust and Project organiser,
said the competition allowed young people passionate about hip-hop to engage in creative expression and hone their skills in a "supportive and positive" environment.
Ms Martin said now its eighth year; the competition had attracted crews from all over the North Island from as far away as Kaitaia down to Hastings
That included 15 hip-hop crews from Tauranga, four from Whakatane/Edgecumbe and one from Taupo, and at least one from Gisborne, she said.
