The search for a person lost at sea off the shore of Tauranga continues today after an unsuccessful attempt last night.
Bay of Plenty police district operations manager Inspector Kevin Taylor said police have established there was potentially at least one person on board the 5.6m fibreglass Sea Nymph.
No one knew. There was no report and no one called in that they were sinking. It wasn't known who was on board, how many were on board.
The boat, named Optimist, was spotted about 2 nautical miles south of Mayor Island (Tuhua) about 3pm yesterday.
A spotter plane working for a commercial fishing company saw the pleasure boat had capsized and alerted police and Tauranga coastguard.
