Tailed by sharks and accompanied by dolphins and penguins, two Tauranga men have successfully paddled across the Hauraki Gulf.
Standup paddle boarder Brent Bourgeois and kayaker Nathan Pettigrew yesterday completed their first leg of a marine voyage from Auckland to Mount Maunganui.
Today they set out on day two of the four-day mission.
The two men made it from Takapuna Beach to the Coromandel's Port Jackson just before 6pm yesterday, covering 60km with just their bodies as engines. Today, they will travel 55km to Opito Bay; they plan to paddle 55km to Whangamata and the following day another 55km to Mount Maunganui.
