Bay motorists are being urged to avoid traffic hotspots in the Bay and consider what time they were travelling to minimise congestion this Auckland Anniversary Weekend.
NZ Transport Agency journey manager Liam Ryan said traffic across the Bay of Plenty and Waikato was expected to start building about 10am today and remain busy until about 9pm, with the heaviest travel times between 2pm and 8pm.
NZTA's website has interactive maps, based on previous years' travel patterns, showing the busiest routes and heaviest travel times to help motorists this weekend.
Mr Ryan was urging motorists to plan their journey outside of these times to reduce their stress levels and help ease congestion.
The map identified State Highway 2 between Paeroa and Tauranga as one of the busiest stretches of highway in the district. Katikati residents believe it is their town which is the pinch point.
